When you enrol with Formula Botanica, we don't recommend that you make any significant investments in equipment to start with. We provide a suggestion of a basic equipment list bellow, from which, many of the tools should already be in your kitchen.
We find that many of our students change their ideas and plans about the sort of skincare business they want to create, as they go through our courses. You don't for instance want to invest in a homogeniser to create emulsions if you then end up launching a range of body oils.
Once you start to create products that you will test and sell, you will need to invest in equipment that is reserved specifically for cosmetic manufacturing only. Again, this does not necessarily need to be expensive equipment but you will need to set aside some funds in order to invest in the tools for your artisan lab.
Equipment:
- Glass bowl or stainless steel bowl or plastic bowl
- Whisk - handheld Spoons
- Spatulas
- Knife
- Chopping board
- Grater
- 0.01gr jewellery scales
- Hand blender
- Pot for bain marie
- Jars & lid
- Serum bottles
- Lip balm tube or mini jar
- Airless bottle
- Bottles & spray top
- Foamer bottles
- Labels (various sizes)
- pH strip
Please check the Formula Botanica Amazon stores to find some of the equipment we recommend:
- Formula Botanica Amazon UK Store
- Formula Botanica Amazon US Store

Hi,
I have a question regarding the ingredients of formula botanica on Amazon. They are not certified organic and I am wondering why that is, if one is wishing to learn how to formulate organic products?
Some of them are but the flower waters do not specify and the essential oils do not specify - not that I can see anyway :)
